Community Lead, Baraza Media Lab – Nairobi
Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement a robust community and partnership strategy that aligns with Baraza Media Lab’s vision and growth objectives.
- Design and oversee membership offerings and experiences across all hubs, ensuring consistent engagement, value, and retention in collaboration with Hub teams.
- Manage membership applications, renewals, and communication.
- Keep accurate data on members, event participation, and space usage, using Baraza’s CRM or management tools.
- Identify and nurture partnerships that enhance community value (e.g., workshops, mentorships, collaborations, showcases).

Serve as the primary liaison between Baraza and its community of members and residents.

Lead the planning and execution of member engagement initiatives, fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and active community across the country.
Events & Programming:

Curate and co-create events for internal members and the broader media and creative ecosystem in collaboration with the Curator.

Gather insights and feedback from members to inform Baraza’s programming and strategy.
Team Leadership:

Manage and mentor community teams across Baraza’s hubs, ensuring alignment, efficiency, and a shared sense of purpose.

Coordinate with other Baraza offices to harmonize community experiences and share best practices.

Contribute to quarterly reflection and learning sessions within Baraza’s team.
Partnership Development:

Oversee and manage Baraza’s partnerships (particularly those that affect the community and members directly) in collaboration with the leadership team, ensuring strategic alignment and mutual value creation.
Networking & Ecosystem Growth:

Build strong relationships with media, technology, and creative industry players, expanding Baraza’s network and forming partnerships that advance the Lab’s mission.
Requirements
Ideal Qualifications
Educational Background
-
Bachelor’s degree in Media, Communications, Journalism, Creative Industries, Social Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field.

A master’s degree or specialized training in community development, innovation, or media is advantageous.
Professional Experience
-
At least 5 years of experience in community management, media, creative industries, or ecosystem building.

Proven success in developing and sustaining vibrant communities of media practitioners, technologists, or creatives.
-
Experience working within innovation hubs, media labs, or similar collaborative spaces.
-
Demonstrated ability to establish and manage strategic partnerships at regional or national levels.

Experience organizing and facilitating events, workshops, or community engagement initiatives.

Strong strategic thinking with experience developing community and partnership strategies.
