Job Description
Goethe-Institut Nairobi aims to target cultural journalists, bloggers and digital writers to train them to enhance their capacities in the area of reporting on and documenting culture. The main goal of this workshop is to improve the quality of journalistic outputs documenting culture in Kenya and on the continent. We are looking for twenty practitioners who will be selected through this open call to take part in a week-long, in-person workshop that will take place at the Goethe-Institut Auditorium on Friday 24th October – Thursday 30th October 2025 from 10 am – 5 pm (except Saturday & Sunday).
The training will involve sessions facilitated by experienced journalists and writers. We will need your help to identify the skills gaps in this sector; kindly share areas you would like to improve on through the workshop. This includes and is not limited to: ✅research skills, ✅writing critiquing, ✅ethics, ✅fact checking, ✅news vs. opinion features, ✅information vs disinformation, ✅criticality.
Alongside these learning sessions, the workshop will include practical approaches like group work, practical assignments to review ongoing events and eLearning sessions with both local and international journalists.
