Job Description

As a Program Officer Trainee at Pit to Palace, you will play a crucial role in advancing our mission to empower Africa’s youth and mid-sized SMEs, fostering sustainable development and economic resilience across the continent. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in program management, coordination, and implementation, supporting initiatives that drive impactful change. Under the mentorship of experienced professionals, you will contribute to the design, execution, and monitoring of programs that align with Pit to Palace’s vision of a sustainable, prosperous Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Coordination & Implementation
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of Pit to Palace’s programs, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and timelines.
  • Support the development of program work plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources to maximize impact.
  • Facilitate communication between different stakeholders, including program participants, partners, and internal teams, to ensure smooth program delivery.
  • Oversee logistics for program activities, including workshops, training sessions, and community events, ensuring they run effectively and efficiently.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation
  • Assist in the development and implementation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks to measure program impact and outcomes.
  • Collect, analyze, and report on data to track progress against program objectives, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management, stakeholders, and funders, showcasing the impact of our programs.
  • Utilize feedback from participants and stakeholders to refine and enhance program strategies, ensuring they meet community needs and expectations.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Partnership Building
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including community leaders, partner organizations, and government agencies.
  • Identify potential partners and collaborators to expand the reach and impact of Pit to Palace’s programs.
  • Represent Pit to Palace at meetings, conferences, and events, promoting our mission and building networks to support program goals.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to promote program activities and successes through relevamt channels.
  • Research & Development
  • Conduct research to identify emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities in the fields of sustainability, SME development, and youth empowerment.
  • Support the development of new program initiatives and pilot projects that align with Pit to Palace’s mission and strategic objectives.
  • Assist in drafting proposals for funding, highlighting the impact potential and sustainability of proposed programs.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Business Administration, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related field

Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience in program management, project coordination, or a related field, preferably within a non-profit or social impact organization.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of preparing clear and compelling action plans, progress reports and presentations.
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities, with experience in data collection and analysis to support decision-making.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and project management software, e.g., MS Projects, Asana, etc.
  • Understanding of sustainable development, community engagement, and the role of SMEs and youth in economic growth.
