The Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya (AKES, Kenya) operates five schools in Kenya and provides nursery to senior secondary education in both national and international curricula. It is part of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of private development agencies working to improve living conditions and opportunities for people of all faiths and origins in specific regions of the developing world.

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi (AKA, Nairobi) is an IB continuum school in Kenya authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum (IB) from Early Years through the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the Diploma Programme (DP). With over 1,000 students, AKA, Nairobi is a multi-cultural school with a variety of nationalities represented in our student and teaching faculty.

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi – Senior School has an opening for the position of: Digital Design Teacher.

The Digital Design Teacher will deliver engaging, inquiry-driven instruction within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), fostering creativity, innovation, computational thinking and problem-solving skills. The role involves guiding students through the design cycle to develop digital solutions using a variety of technologies, tools and platforms. The teacher will contribute to a collaborative teaching environment and support the holistic development of students as reflective, innovative and responsible global citizens aligned with the Academy's mission and IB philosophy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver high-quality lessons in IB MYP Digital Design and/or related technology and design courses.
  • Design inquiry-based learning experiences aligned with IB frameworks.
  • Develop and implement schemes of work, unit plans and assessments in line with IB standards.
  • Foster creativity, computational thinking, digital literacy and problem-solving skills in students.
  • Teach and support the development of skills in coding, web design, multimedia production, app development, digital graphics and emerging technologies as appropriate.
  • Integrate real-world design challenges and authentic problem-solving opportunities into learning experiences.
  • Monitor, assess and provide timely feedback on student progress using IB assessment criteria.
  • Promote ethical technology use, digital citizenship and responsible innovation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary units and curriculum development.
  • Promote academic honesty and uphold IB Learner Profile attributes.
  • Participate in co-curricular activities, student mentorship, innovation programmes and school events.
  • Contribute to departmental planning, curriculum review and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Create an inclusive learning environment that supports diverse student needs and backgrounds.
  • Contribute to the IB MYP and DP Core components.

The Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Media, Design Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field with a teaching qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience teaching IB MYP Digital Design, Design Technology, Computer Science, ICT, or a comparable international curriculum.
  • Strong understanding of inquiry-based learning, design thinking and concept-driven curriculum design.
  • Experience teaching coding, digital technologies, multimedia design or related technology-focused disciplines.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging educational technologies, programming platforms and digital design tools.
  • Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate is mandatory.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and classroom management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student wellbeing, safeguarding and holistic development.
